Indore, July 30: Reinforcing its commitment to fostering technological innovation and sustainable development, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore, successfully organized a two-day hands-on workshop on "AI for Sustainability" in collaboration with 1M1B (One Million for One Billion) on 29th and 30th July, 2026.
The workshop was conceived with the objective of introducing students to the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing pressing global sustainability challenges and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The programme provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of how emerging AI technologies can be leveraged to create innovative, scalable, and impactful solutions for environmental, social, and economic issues.
During the two-day programme, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning concepts, generative AI tools, prompt engineering techniques, and responsible AI practices. The sessions also highlighted the practical applications of AI in diverse domains such as environmental conservation, climate action, healthcare, education, agriculture, waste management, and smart resource utilization. Through expert-led demonstrations and real-world case studies, students explored how AI is increasingly becoming a catalyst for sustainable innovation across industries.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 140 students, including 55 participants on the first day and 85 participants on the second day, comprising students from B.Tech Second Year, B.Tech Third Year, and M.Tech programmes. Students actively participated in hands-on exercises, live demonstrations, collaborative learning activities, and interactive discussions, enabling them to gain practical exposure to cutting-edge AI tools and their real-world implementation. The practical nature of the sessions encouraged students to experiment with AI-driven solutions while strengthening their analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Throughout the programme, the resource persons emphasized the importance of integrating technological innovation with sustainable development. Students were encouraged to think beyond conventional applications of AI and explore how intelligent systems can contribute to solving critical challenges related to climate change, healthcare accessibility, quality education, resource optimization, and community development. The sessions also highlighted the ethical and responsible use of AI while developing solutions for the benefit of society.
Speaking on the occasion, the faculty coordinators emphasized that the future of engineering lies in creating technology that not only advances industry but also contributes meaningfully to society and the environment. They encouraged students to continuously enhance their AI skills and adopt an innovation-driven mindset capable of addressing real-world challenges through sustainable technological solutions.
The workshop concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session where students interacted with the experts, clarified their queries, and shared their learning experiences. Participants appreciated the workshop for its practical orientation, interactive delivery, and relevance to current technological trends. Many students expressed keen interest in participating in similar advanced AI and sustainability-focused programmes in the future.
The successful organization of the workshop reflects IET-DAVV's continued efforts to provide students with industry-relevant learning opportunities, promote interdisciplinary innovation, and prepare future engineers to harness emerging technologies for sustainable development and societal well-being.
The programme was successfully coordinated by Ms. Nilima Karankar and Dr. Jitendra Soni under the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IET-DAVV, Indore.
