Indore, 21 August 2026 In a significant initiative towards environmental conservation and enhancement of green cover, Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, Army War College, Mhow, launched a comprehensive Green Initiative in June 2026 on the occasion of World Environment Day.

As part of this sustained campaign, a team from Army War College, Mhow, led by Lt Col Bijender, Arboriculture Officer, conducted a mega plantation drive at the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Approximately 1,000 saplings were planted and distributed under the campaigns “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Har Ghar Do Ped”.

The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from Dr Pratosh Bansal, Director, IET-DAVV, along with Army personnel, staff members and students of the institute. The participants not only planted saplings but also pledged to ensure their protection, regular care and upkeep, reinforcing the importance of nurturing trees beyond plantation.

26,000 Saplings Planted Under Sustained Green Initiative

Under the vision and guidance of the Commandant, Army War College, Mhow has been undertaking a comprehensive Green Initiative since World Environment Day on 05 June 2026, with a focus on environmental conservation and increasing green cover. The initiative encompasses extensive plantation drives at various locations as well as innovative activities such as an “Eco-Walk with plantation enroute”. As part of this sustained campaign, approximately 26,000 saplings have been planted since 05 June 2026 till date.

Collective Responsibility Towards the Environment

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Col Bijender and Dr Pratosh Bansal highlighted that plantation and environmental conservation are not the responsibility of any single organisation but a collective responsibility of every individual in society. They emphasised that concerted efforts by the Armed Forces, educational institutions, students and the wider community can significantly enhance green cover and contribute towards creating a clean, healthy and sustainable environment for future generations.

The comprehensive Green Initiative continues to promote environmental awareness, community participation through “Jansahbhagidari” and sustainable development. The plantation drive at IET-DAVV stands as a meaningful example of collaboration between the Armed Forces and educational institutions towards building a greener, healthier and more sustainable future.
