The Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore, organised a hands-on “Bake, Create, and Innovate – A Bakery Skills Workshop” on 8 August 2026 at the M-Block, 1st Floor of IET-DAVV. The workshop was organised in collaboration with Govt. Women’s Polytechnic College, Indore, with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to baking, food-product preparation, hygiene, presentation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Beginning at 11:00 AM, the workshop reflected IET-DAVV’s continued emphasis on experiential learning and skill development beyond conventional classroom education. The programme provided students and faculty members with an opportunity to acquire practical skills while exploring the creative and entrepreneurial dimensions of bakery-product development.

IET-DAVV Creates a Platform for Experiential Learning

The workshop was designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of baking through demonstrations and hands-on activities. At IET-DAVV, participants were introduced to commonly used baking ingredients and their functional roles in determining the texture, taste, appearance, and quality of bakery products.

The practical nature of the programme enabled participants to move beyond theoretical understanding and directly engage with the preparation process. Participants gained experience in mixing, measuring, shaping, baking, finishing, decoration, and presentation under guidance.

Practical Skills Through Hands-on Activities

A significant component of the workshop at IET-DAVV focused on the preparation of cookies and other bakery products. Participants were introduced to recipe-based preparation and learned about the importance of maintaining appropriate ingredient proportions and baking conditions.

Ragi-based and salted-cookie preparations were among the practical items demonstrated during the workshop. The sessions encouraged participants to understand how variations in ingredients and preparation methods can influence the final product.

The hands-on activities provided students at IET-DAVV with an opportunity to learn through direct participation, making the workshop both informative and engaging.

Encouraging Creativity and Innovation at IET-DAVV

The programme also highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation in food-product development. Participants explored aspects of finishing, decoration, product presentation, and handling, including cake presentation.

The workshop demonstrated how an everyday skill such as baking can become a platform for experimentation and innovation. By encouraging participants to think about product quality, appearance, presentation, and consumer preferences, IET-DAVV provided a broader perspective on skill-based learning.

Focus on Food Safety and Quality

Food safety and hygiene were important components of the workshop. Participants were sensitised to the significance of maintaining cleanliness and adopting hygienic practices while handling ingredients, equipment, and prepared products.

The programme emphasised that quality and hygiene are essential elements of professional food preparation. Such practical awareness contributes to the development of responsible and industry-ready skills among students.

Connecting Skills with Entrepreneurship

An important feature of the workshop was its focus on the entrepreneurial potential of bakery skills. The programme encouraged students to look beyond skill acquisition and consider how practical knowledge can be transformed into opportunities for self-employment, small-scale businesses, and innovative food enterprises.

Through initiatives such as this workshop, IET-DAVV continues to encourage students to develop a broader skill set that combines academic knowledge with practical ability, creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Enthusiastic Participation at IET-DAVV

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The interactive format encouraged participants to work collaboratively, observe demonstrations closely, and actively engage in the preparation of bakery products.

The atmosphere at IET-DAVV remained energetic throughout the practical sessions as participants worked together, shared their learning, and explored different aspects of bakery-product preparation. The final products and their presentation provided participants with a sense of achievement and encouraged learning through practice.
