IET-DAVV NSS Volunteers Join ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Initiative at Sirpur Talab

Students Contribute Through Shramdaan, Plantation and Public Awareness Activities

Indore, August 18, 2026: A group of around 70 students and NSS volunteers from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore, came together at Sirpur Talab on Dhar Road to participate in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative combined environmental action with civic awareness and community participation.

Conducted with the support of Internship with Mayor (IWM) and the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the four-hour programme carried the message “From Cleanliness to Values – Our Indore, Our Responsibility.” The participation reflected the students’ involvement in activities aimed at strengthening awareness about cleanliness, sustainability and responsible citizenship.

Giving Back Through Shramdaan

The programme began with students and NSS volunteers undertaking shramdaan in and around Sirpur Talab. Participants worked together to clean the surroundings, reinforcing the importance of maintaining public spaces and taking personal responsibility for the cleanliness of the city.

The campaign also included a significant plantation activity, with 50 saplings planted at the site. The plantation effort highlighted the importance of expanding green spaces and encouraging young people to take an active role in environmental conservation.

Taking the Message to the Public

To complement the on-ground activities, IET students presented a street play (nukkad natak) focused on cleanliness and environmental responsibility. The performance drew attention to everyday civic practices, including disposing of waste at designated places and helping keep shared public spaces clean.

Through this creative form of communication, the students sought to connect environmental awareness with everyday behaviour and encourage members of the public to contribute to a cleaner environment.

Officials Encourage Student Participation

The programme was attended by IAS officer Shri Prakhar Singh, officials associated with the IMC cleanliness campaign, Dr. Vijay Verma, District NSS Coordinator, Indore, and Dr. Pratosh Bansal, Director, IET-DAVV.

Their presence provided encouragement to the participating students and volunteers and underlined the importance of collaborative efforts involving educational institutions, civic bodies and the community.

A Lesson in Civic and Environmental Responsibility

The participation of IET-DAVV students in the campaign demonstrated the value of combining education with practical community engagement. By taking part in cleaning activities, planting saplings and communicating with the public, the NSS volunteers translated the ideas of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility into direct action.

The programme concluded successfully after approximately four hours, leaving participants with a strengthened sense of responsibility towards their surroundings and the wider community. The initiative also contributed to the broader vision of a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Indore.
